Baby Loss Awareness Week is a national awareness week that is observed each year between 9th - 15th October, culminating with the Global Wave of Light.

The purpose of the week is to:

- Remember much loved and missed babies and honour their memories
- Raise awareness of the impact of pregnancy and baby loss
- Drive change

Aching Arms works collaboratively with many other charities throughout the year as part of the Baby Loss Awareness Week Alliance.

We know that the week can be difficult for many families who have experienced the heartbreak of pregnancy and baby loss and that’s why we want to remind you we are always here for you, whether you lost your baby recently or many years ago and what ever your experience is – we don’t want you to go through it alone.

If you’d like to find out about how we can support you, please take a look at our support page here.

Ways you can get involved in Baby Loss Awareness Week

There are many ways to get involved in the week, whether you are remembering a baby special to you, navigating helping others experiencing pregnancy or baby loss, or as a valued supporter of the work we do.

" The impact of Baby Loss Awareness Week reaches far beyond seven days. It starts conversations, challenges stigma, improves support for bereaved families, and ensures that babies who died too soon are remembered with love. "

This Baby Loss Awareness Week, you can help ensure bereaved families know they are not alone by donating a bear in memory of a baby who is loved and missed.

Every bear donation helps Aching Arms place a comfort bear into the arms of a family facing the heartbreak of loss, offering a tangible reminder that their baby matters and will always be remembered.

By dedicating a bear here, you can honour a special baby while helping us reach more families across the UK.

Join us for the Wave Of Light

Join us for the Wave Of Light

Join thousands of families around the world for the Wave of Light on 15th October and take a moment to remember a baby who is loved and missed.

By lighting a candle at 7pm and leaving it burning for at least one hour, you'll become part of a global chain of remembrance that honours babies gone too soon.

You can make your tribute even more special by purchasing one of our remembrance candles from the Aching Arms shop here.

Every candle purchased not only creates a meaningful moment of reflection, but also helps fund our support for bereaved families, ensuring more parents know they are not alone in their grief.

Together, we remember every baby and keep their memory shining brightly.

Dress in pink and blue, decorate your office or shop window, encourage staff to wear pink and blue for the day, light up your building, landmark or workspace, host a themed bake sale, or organise a pink and blue fundraising event.

Every conversation started and every display created helps raise awareness of baby loss and reminds grieving families that they are not alone.

Ideas to get involved:

- Decorate shop windows, receptions or staff rooms
- Hold a pink and blue bake sale or coffee morning
- Share pink and blue photos on social media

At Schools - Bringing Bereavement into the Curriculum

At Schools - Bringing Bereavement into the Curriculum

Bereavement is something that touches every community, yet conversations about grief can be difficult. As bereavement is now recognised within the school curriculum, Baby Loss Awareness Week provides an opportunity to promote understanding, empathy and awareness of loss in an age-appropriate way. By creating opportunities to talk about grief and remembrance, schools can help not only their staff but children and young people develop compassion and better support friends, classmates, families and colleagues who may be affected.

To support this, Aching Arms, Footprints Baby Loss and Petals have worked together, as members of the Baby Loss Awareness Week Alliance, to develop a range of educational resources for schools.

Created with the support of professionals with educational expertise and informed by specialist bereavement knowledge, these resources are designed to help schools approach conversations around loss, remembrance and empathy with confidence, sensitivity and care.
