At Aching Arms we understand the impact loosing a baby has on the whole family, and in particular, the overwhelming effect it can have on siblings. As parents it can be incredibly hard to explain what has happened and then support children through their grief and understanding whilst managing your own. We are proud to be in the process of developing a care pathway for bereaved siblings. This will not only include comfort and memory making resources for siblings, but also animations for children and teenagers. The animations aim to support parents in having conversations around the loss of a baby with their younger children, whilst the teenager production supports the individual to understand how they are feeling and how to have conversations about this.
Whilst these are being created, we do offer comfort items for bereaved siblings. The dandelion bear is a smaller, non-dedicated bear designed specially for children to cuddle when they are trying to understand, not only their own grief, but also the grief around them. Many UK hospitals have a supply of Dandelion bears, but if a bear wasn’t available at the time you needed one, then they can be purchased here.
Aching Arms also has a support service, via text, telephone and online so if you would like to have a chat with another bereaved parent about how to discuss the loss of your baby with their sibling then please do get in touch by phoning or texting 07464 508994 or by emailing support@achingarms.co.uk.
