Support For Siblings

When a baby dies, it can feel incredibly difficult to explain to their siblings what has happened, whilst manging your own grief. 

Whether you’re a parent, grandparent, carer or a teacher, the animations below are designed to help you start the conversation with siblings around the loss of a baby in their family. 

For Young Children 

This gentle animation has been created to help young children understand and talk about the loss of a baby brother or sister. Through age appropriate language and compassionate storytelling, it supports families in having difficult conversations, exploring feelings, and reassuring children that their emotions are valid and understood.

For Older Children

This animation has been created for older children who have experienced the loss of a baby brother or sister. It explores the wide range of emotions that can follow a bereavement, helping young people to understand their feelings, feel less alone, and find ways to talk about their grief with family, friends, and those supporting them.

Dandelion Bear

The Aching Arms Dandelion Bear is a smaller, comfort focused bear created especially for children who are learning to understand their own grief and the grief they see around them. 

While our dedicated Aching Arms bears are gifted directly to bereaved parents as a symbol of support and understanding, the Dandelion Bear is designed to extend that same circle of care to siblings, offering them a tangible source of comfort and connection at a time when they may feel confused or sad. 

Some of our partner hospitals across the UK keep Dandelion Bears available, but if one wasn’t on hand when you needed it, you can purchase a bear here. 

Aching Arms is also exploring future funding opportunities to help ensure more Dandelion Bears can be provided where they’re needed most.
