Aching Arms responds to the 10 year health plan for England

03/07/2025

At Aching Arms, we welcome the Government’s recognition of the urgent need to improve maternity and neonatal services, as outlined in the NHS 10 Health Plan for England.

The commitment to prioritising maternity care and to better data collection is a step in the right direction, particularly for families who have experienced the heartbreak of baby loss.

However, we share the disappointment voiced by others in the baby loss community that the plan does not go far enough. There remains a pressing need for a fully funded, comprehensive maternity strategy that ensures every woman and birthing person receives safe and compassionate care that includes specialist bereavement care.

We know from the families we support that the impact of baby loss is profound and long lasting. It is vital that the voices of bereaved parents are heard and that their experiences shape the future of maternity care.

We urge the Government to prioritise maternity services and ensure patient safety. We want the needs of families who experience the devastation of bereavement or trauma in maternity care to be listened to.

You can read more about the 10 Year Health Plan from the Government Website here. You can find Wes Streeting, Secretary of State for Health and Social Care's statement here.
