Aching Arms welcomes today’s announcement that the Government will amend the Employment Rights Bill to extend protected bereavement leave to those who experience pregnancy loss before 24 weeks. This long-overdue change will come into effect in 2027. Leanne Turner, our Founder and CEO, has responded to the news today by saying:
“We fully support our friends at the Miscarriage Association and their 'Leave for Every Loss' campaign and welcome this news today. It will allow families who experience pregnancy loss before 24 weeks to have their grief formally acknowledged in law, validating their experience and ending the silence around early loss, as well as giving them the protected time to grieve. It is also a step towards equality and compassion, there is no hierarchy of grief, putting this change in place, gives pregnancy loss an equal footing with other bereavements, encouraging compassionate and inclusive support in society and the workplace.”
